Stôl Hyffa / Hypha Stool

The hypha stool was a collaborative project with myself and Louis Barrett inspired by Alessandro Stefano’s beautiful AW24 collection.

We wanted to encompass the textural language in the collection while using ash as our medium. Celebrating a soft material such as textile on a hard material such as ash was the issue we were faced with, the solution was to scan Alessandro’s pieces and CNC the texture onto the front leg’s facade.

Working collaboratively has allowed me to approach a project and explore a completely different style while remaining true to my ethos and design narrative.

All three of us take inspiration from nature, although, from completely contrasting scales, from mountain ranges to microscopic connections found in funghi. This allowed the narrative to be coherent and complimentary of one and other’s design styles, while exploring areas we would not have found individually.

Alessandro’s tondo collection ‘uses a holistic approach, the design draws on a variety of organic forms and texture of fungi. the fabric textures are informed by research into different scopes, reaching from microscopic connections found in hyphae…’
